The Sunday Times recently called Oliver! "a musical masterpiece".Oliver is so highly loved by the English audience that when it was re-opened in 2009 it had already sold advance bookings worth £15 million. The musical began in 1960, in the West End and ran for a continuous 3000 performances run. After its revival in 2009, Oliver remains one of the most loved British theatre shows ever. It is of course an adaptation of the Chares Dickens novel, Oliver Twist.
The Musical takes audiences into the life of the poor old, orphaned youngster Oliver. The play starts with Oliver working in a workhouse in Victorian London. He is soon kicked out for asking some extra gruel and ventures to the streets where he learns the harsh realities of the street life and grows up in an even worse surrounding. Oliver meets all kinds of people in his new life. Fagin and the Artful Dodger introduce Oliver to the world of pick-pocketing and burglary while Nancy shows him motherly love and friendship.
Oliver is a tale of friendship and betrayal, love, honor and villainy. A tale powered by super hit music like the Food, Glorious Food, Consider Yourself and I’d Do Anything which people hum and sing along with the characters.
Oliver is undoubtedly one of the most involving and moving shows ever to have been produced in London Theatre history.
